ReVolter Record (previously "Project Spirits") is a project combining a dungeon crawler and a visual novel sharing the same universe. These two games are in active development to improve my skills in using the Unity game engine.

I choose to take care of many things as possible : the gameplay, the 3D environments or 2D illustrations, the UI design and its animations, the scenario, etc. To achieve a professional feeling, I used some royalty free pictures or sounds as well.

Dungeon crawler

Inspired by all the empty underground shopping streets in Japan during the Covid pandemic, I started the development of a first-person dungeon crawler in May 2020. I wanted before all to replicate the feeling of the very first games of this genre, like Shin Megami Tensei or the first Persona games. Wandering around empty undergrounds makes an immersive experience in a familiar but slightly different environment, while fighting against a wide range of enemies.

The action takes place in many subway stations of Osaka that's affected by a strange global disaster, where the player has to fight spirits using many skills designed by others exorcists.

Visual novel

As I've always been interested by visual novels, I wanted to make some myself without any existing library apart the Unity game engine. As this kind of video game needs to write a considerable amount of dialogues, while using many visual or sound effects, I took the opportunity to design a new scripting language named "KoeScript".

Because this game is the prologue of the dungeon crawler, it tells in details the story of the global disaster that disrupted the lives in every big metropolis, forcing their population to take refuge in the countryside. The emergency response is of course made through official means like firefighters, doctors and military... but some civilians prefer to investigate themselves even if it means to became an outlaw.

For a smooth development, this will be a "linear" visual novel, which means without any choice to make. The story is told through 3 main characters, each located in a different city : Osaka, Kobe et Uji. I use a Python library to convert real pictures in pixel-art style, before editing them to use them as in-game background images.
